I am a linguistics lecturer and researcher based in Medan, currently teaching at Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara where I engage students in exploring language as a social, cultural, and cognitive practice. My scholarly interests center on critical discourse analysis, multimodal analysis, semantics, pragmatics, semiotics, and forensic linguistics. Through these perspectives, I examine how meaning is constructed across texts, images, and digital interactions, and how language operates within institutions, media, and legal contexts.
Over the last five years, I have authored and co-authored several books and research articles that address contemporary linguistic issues, particularly the intersection between language, power, and technology. I am committed to developing research that connects theoretical insights with real social challenges, while also mentoring students to become critical and ethical language users. My academic journey is driven by a belief that linguistics can contribute meaningfully to education, justice, and public understanding.
My professional skills are rooted in a strong foundation of linguistic theory and applied research. I am experienced in conducting critical discourse analysis to uncover ideological patterns in media, political, and institutional texts. In multimodal analysis, I work with visual, verbal, and digital data to interpret how meaning emerges through the interaction of images, layout, sound, and language. My background in semantics and pragmatics enables me to analyze nuanced meaning, implicature, and context-sensitive communication in both everyday and professional settings.
I also specialize in semiotic analysis, particularly in examining symbols, signs, and cultural representations within digital culture and popular media. In the field of forensic linguistics, I apply linguistic evidence to issues such as authorship identification, legal interpretation, and language in the courtroom. Beyond research, I am skilled in academic writing, curriculum design, and mentoring students in qualitative and mixed-method methodologies. These competencies allow me to bridge theory and practice, contributing to scholarly development as well as community engagement.
